Day 9: Tues July 12

Woke up to a very wet campground at Tetsa River. Had a quick cereal breakfast and packed up to pull out by 10:30am. Bye Bye mozzies!!

Such gorgeous scenery along the Alaska Highway... Truly stunning. This trip has been everything we had hoped for and more. We have already had such special times with the little monkeys and it is so fun to see the two of them become even closer friends. Pretty darn awesome.

We stopped at Toad River for lunch at 12:15pm and ate at the little diner. Quite a character spot. Famous (?) for all the dusty ball caps stapled to the ceiling and walls. Met a very interesting character there having his lunch. Old guy in his 70's biking his way along the Alaskan highway and hitching rides as he could. Saw lots of motorbikes along the way... Not such a great ride in this rainy stormy weather and road work conditions.

Stopped just before 2pm to look at a beautiful young moose on the side of the road. Handsome thing, looked very healthy. Got some good photos.

Rolled into Strawberry flats campground sometime around 3pm at Muncho Lake. What a beautiful lake!!! My favourite spot so far. We were lucky to get a spot... With on an hour it was full and truck after truck were having to turn away and head farther down the road to find a site.

The lake is bright aqua blue and amazingly clear, with a gorgeous mountain backdrop. Reminds us of garibaldi lake a bit. Our site (#2) was closer to the highway side than we would have liked, but had a very short path a few feet down to the pebbly beach.

Ollie and Amelia were in heaven here. Digging and playing at the water's edge and making water troughs and roads. They loved looking for pinecones and watching squirrels and chipmunks.

We pumped up the dinghy for the maiden family voyage and rowed out around the corner of the lake a bit. Kids were fantastic in the boat. Amelia got cozy and was extremely relaxed during the ride.

After dinner, Ollie and Jonathan rigged up the little electric motor and went fishing. They trolled for awhile with no luck catching any fish. Ollie was excited to use his fishing rod though. Amelia and I played at the water's edge and snuggled on the beach.

It stays light until almost midnight these days, so remembering to put the kids to bed has been somewhat remiss. Their average bedtime is around 10pm! And we are not far behind them. Amelia and Ollie have been great sleepers though!
