So the engine and brakes problems are very unfortunate, but we are remaining positive. Jonathan met up with Roger the mechanic after leaving a message with Linda at the main desk. After discussions, Roger told us he would clear space in his shop for our RV and get to work figuring out the necessary repairs and parts needed. Roger seems super kind. He is retired as a licenced mechanic, and does select repairs on site here at the shop he has on the RV site property. He also is a master carver and has done some amazing carvings.
Jonathan went to the office and the payphone (no cell service here) and card BCAA to find out what they cover for us since we have paid for the extra RV coverage. They will cover $500 towards pur expenses for accommodation. We have checked into a very clean and tidy little "cabin" here on the property for the next couple of nights. It is a room with a queen bed and room for the pack and play, a bar fridge and has a good size bathroom with a great shower. If We had to be stuck somewhere, this is a pretty darn good place to have to stay around here.
We packed up our main belongings and cook stuff (Linda said we could set up our camp gear in the parking spot beside our cabin to cook and bbq). Jonathan gently rolled our rig through the near empty campground down to the cabin where we dumped our necessities and then rolled it on over a short way further to the big metal building that was roger's shop.
He reported in that the master cylinder, indeed, needed to be replaced and that the sputtering we experienced was from a clogged fuel filter.
Jonathan was pretty tired and sweaty after much back and forth with the mechanic trying to order parts for such an old vehicle. Getting parts shipped here is very EXPENSIVE!! And it takes a long time!
We set up our canopy and mosquito net and chairs beside the cabin and got a few things settled.
While Jonathan had a shower and a short rest, the kids and I Ioaded up the chariot and took our two bags of laundry to their laundromat... So clean and lovely! Great machines and only $3 per load.
We want back to get Jonathan and found him watching Ghost Busters on the tv. Ollie had been asking about Ghostbusters recently and We let him watch a scene. He was a little scared by the library ghost when she morphed into a scary face, but he felt Very lucky to watch some of the movie. He talked about it and asked questions all afternoon. ;)
We went to the "Wolf it Down" restaurant on site (I switched the laundry over to the dryer) and we had lunch/dinner. Amelia was so tired and was begging to go to bed at 3:30pm but we wanted to get some food in her. Missed the window for napping by 4:30pm. I showered while she shouted "Mama OUT!" from her crib and so we decided to go for a walk to a lake view in the woods behind the RV site and cabins. It was a strange walk to find the path... Kind of like a dump filled with old broken cars, buckets, random metal scraps, etc. But we found the path and ended up at a very lovely view of a little lake inhabited by a couple of loons. We explored in there until the bugs drove us away. Amelia begged to be carried and I made a makeshift "ergo" baby carrier out my backpack and carried her on my back to find Ollie and daddy and head back to the cabin. She fell asleep before we got back and I just laid her in her bed and called it done!
Ollie had a shower (he was so grubby! No RV bath last night with amelia!) and was excited to watch a bit of a show on tv... He has not watched anything for 12 days! We found "cloudy with a chance of meatballs" and he was excited to watch it in our bed and snuggle.
And here I am... Sat outside the RV office so I can link onto the WiFi. Swatting horseflies as big as large wasps and killing mosquito after mosquito.
The last report on the RV was that it was unclear which exact model to order for the part. Shipping at the moment is from somewhere in the states and it would not arrive until Wednesday (5 days). And if it misses the truck for the Wednesday delivery from being received in Whitehorse, then it is not here till Friday. AND, it would suck to have the wrong part shipped... So we are trying to figure it all out. Jonathan has also been in touch with our RV mechanic back in Vancouver who has been most helpful. Everyone here has been great. We are very lucky. We may get the RV dragged to an RV spot here and camp in it anyhow until the part arrives. Cheaper and more fun than the cabin/motel room.
We are safe and sound!! Not to worry!!
* getting WiFi and cell service has been very remote, which is kinda nice in a way... Being unplugged, so to speak. It makes for challenges in reporting in to this blog (and reporting in order... Some photos won't upload, so will fill in details as I can).
