Day 13: Sat July 16th "Another night at Baby Nugget"

It was cozy quarters in our little room last night. Amelia woke at 3:30am very confused as to why she was still in her clothes and everyone was in bed. When I told her everyone was still snoozing and pointed at the bed beside her, she replied, "ohhh" in her funny teenage tone. She accepted bubbas and went back down until around 9am. Ollie was a bed hog as only a 4 year old can be. He managed to cover every square inch of the double bed, whether we were in that space or not. We had to give him a dose of benadryl cream as well because he was incessantly scratching at his insect bites on his leg.

We woke around 9 and made coffee in the tiny coffee pot. Wrangled a makeshift breakfast of yogurt and rice krispie squares we had in our little bar fridge.

Jonathan sent Oliver on a "mission" to walk across the gravel path to the restaurant and ask for cream for coffee. They corresponded via walkie talkies. Ollie took his mission very seriously. He already had good relations with the restaurant staff from yesterday when he spontaneously complimented the waitresses... One about her hat, and the other about her nails. He is a real charmer. ;-)  He emerged from the restaurant with a styrofoam cup full of evaporated milk with a lid on it. Nicely done!!

More back and forth today about the master cylinder part. Again, everyone trying to get an answer as to what to get shipped here.  Jonathan took photos and emailed our guy in vancouver who tried to email his Lordco (whose email was down and they needed to send a person with the print out!). Everything has such a lag  in communication and it is difficult to pull the trigger on what to actually order and where to order it from fo ease of timing and cost. At this point, we will pay whatever (within reason) to get a part
here.

The RV needed to be taken out of the shop to make room for other customers and so it was agreed that they would tow it down to one of their RV parking and plug in sites. #61 is way far out in the lot but has some sandy areas and is a bit behind a clump of trees. The lot is empty, and we look a little disheveled with our sad, broken RV taken apart at the engine and our mosquito net canopy set up.

We had emptied out our room this afternoon in a rush so that it could be cleaned. We loaded up the back of Scott's pick up truck with it all... And then waited. And waited. Then found out that we had to keep the room for the second night that Linda booked us in for (Jonathan wanted only one night but she kind of insisted on two). We were in limbo knowing we were charged for the room already and yet the RV was already in a site (free tonight). We decided to spend the night in the RV and so after much waiting, We unloaded the truck into another person's truck (Larry) and an atv and drove it to the RV sometime around 6pm.

In the meantime, Jonathan had tried to hitch a ride into Watson Lake to buy groceries. No luck and ended up asking Larry for a lift. Ollie and I watched Penguins of Madagascar while he was out. Amelia goofed around avoiding a nap. Grrr.

Anyhow, this evening we made tacos at the RV (we ate lunch/brunch at 11am at the Wolf restaurant ... Burger for Jonathan, a muffin and cinnamon bun and small kid milk and kid juice and a fresh loaf of bread to take away, which came to almost $40. Too pricy to keep eating there! And limited selection.) That bread was so good though! Made lots of pb and jam sandwiches through the day.

8pm Popped some jiffy popcorn on the camp stove for Ollie to take with him when he went with Jonathan to the lake to try fishing. They hiked about 30 min in a neat woodsy trail to a beautiful lake. Jonathan carried him back in the kid carrier. They met Amelia and me at the cabin where I had finished showering her (might as well take advantage of the "free" paid for shower!). Amelia had a grand time dumping sand on herself and surrounding chairs just after Ollie and Jonathan left to go fish.

I left the boys at the room to have a shower and carted Amelia back in the ergo on my back and the pack and play and three bags we had left there full of clean laundry in the chariot and headed to the RV. She was a monkey to put down. I have since  left her in daddy's capable hands! We are all tired today.

It is 11:20pm and light like 7pm. Kind of normal now. We are eager to get our holiday back on track. We shall see what the verdict is tomorrow.

  1. I am so sorry to read about your mechanical troubles while on your adventure. However, it seems like you are making the best of it and are still having fun. By the way, I absolutely loved Jiffy Pop when I was a kid. It is so neat to get to share that with our kids now. I hope you get back on the road soon!
