Sikanni Campground...Had a nice little lie in until 8:45am and Ollie's little buddy , Eli, knocked on the door of the camper to return a car he borrowed from ollie the day before. Very cute. Oliver was excited to go and play but explained to Eli and Ivory that he had to eat breakfast first. He asked with wide, excited eyes if his friends could have breakfast with him.
Jonathan made pancakes on the campstove griddle. Ivory helped mix the batter and the kids all ate pancakes together at the picnic table.
The mum walked over and took the kids down to the little clearing about a 5min walk away while we got things cleared up. We still had a fair bit to do, so I walked with Ollie and Amelia and their friends to the playground across the field while Jonathan finished packing up the camper. It was very hot! The kids went and got freezies from their mum (their grandpa ran the campground).
The kids played so well together... Making up games, investigating the edge of the little creek, and chasing butterflies. Amelia and little Oakley took turns on the bouncy spring horse and the slide. His mum boosted both the little ones up onto the platform and they were up there for awhile. Amelia was shy, but accepted a friendly hug from Oakley when it was time to come down. :)
The kids were sad to say goodbye to each other and Eli and Ivory gave Ollie really sweet hugs before we left.
Hit the road around noon. We saw a small black bear at the roadside along the way. We got hungry and had a roadside pit stop luncj around 1:15pm just south of Prophet River. We had hit a dragonfly a few minutes prior to stopping and it was still alive, its wing stuck under the windshield wiper. Ollie wanted to rescue it and we got it free. After showing it to Amelia, he put the injured dragonfly in the grass in hopes it would fly away.
I drove from Prophet River to Fort Nelson. That was my first time driving the "rig"... Not so bad! There were hundreds of dragonflies zooming in our path... Nailed more than I would like to account for :(
Lots of Ravens at the side of the highways too.
Arrived in Fort Nelson around 3pm and stopped for gas (117L) and propane for the camper.
Gorgeous landscape for the remainder of the drive! Saw 2 elk as well.
We arrived at Tetsa River regional campground around 6:30pm. A beautiful river side campground run by the lovely retired couple, Bob and Rita, from Newfoundland. Bob gave Jonathan a bit of advice about fishing the river and what path to take down to it.
Mosquitoes were really bad at this campground. Both kids wore their bug net hats for most of the evening.
After a delicious dinner of home made pizzas (cooked in our little oven inside the RV! - very fun) we ventured out to find the path down to the river.
The flora by the riverside was really cool... Ollie and I really liked the thousands of fluffy tuft plants growing amongst the rocks. Jonathan and Oliver walked farther along the river in hopes that they could reach the little calm section where Jonathan wanted to try fishing. Amelia and I went back to the "dogdog playground" which consisted of three little bouncy play toys you sit on... One was a truck and the other two were dolphins. Amelia insisted the dolphins were dogs. She enjoyed her play but removed her bug net and boots, much to my dismay.
Back at the camper, Jonathan and Ollie arrived from up a very steep bank!! A bit of an adventure to get back, but they made it. No luck fishing as they could not get to the eddy without crossing knee deep water.
As we stoked the campfire and admired the view of the stony river... The winds picked up. Thunder crashed and lightening flashed. The raindrops started a lot and as the storm got closer, we decided to take down the canopy on the RV in case the storm wrecked it. We tucked the into the camper and the heavens opened!! It was a bit of a gong show getting the awning back in, but we did it. Man, oh man, did it rain!! It poured all night, but we were cozy and dry in our mobile traveler!
This was also the first night I slept up top with Ollie in the over-cab bed. I am pretty claustrophobic and am none too keen to be up there, but managed to snuggle him up there and sleep all night with no panic attacks! Well done mama! ;)
